Timber Fire Doors Pass the Test

Following the recent government testing regime on timber fire doorsets, CW Fields & Son welcome the recently issued covering narrative outlining the success of the testing: Timber fire door test results – covering narrative

The 25 timber fire doors tested all passed the 30-minute standard successfully with most over performing and some by up to 50%.

A well-publicised article published in the Huffington Post on Friday the 14th of June claimed that Councils have been unable to replace the 4,000 fire doors within its housing stock due to a lack of ‘reliable products’. It is our view that that this claim is both irresponsible and misleading given the success of recent timber fire door testing.

Given the importance of fire doors, and in the wake of the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower fire, our industry was rightly scrutinised. It is important however to differentiate between timber construction fire doors and the foam filled, glass reinforced polymer (GRP) faced fire doors which were present in Grenfell tower.

We hope that the Government’s recently issued narrative will lend confidence that there are fire doors which are compliant, fit for purpose and available right now.

As an industry leading fire door manufacturer, we have always advocated best practice in the supply of our doors/doorsets and how they are installed and so following this ethos we have been members of the TRADA Q Mark third party accreditation scheme for many years. Being members of this scheme means the manufacturing processes of our fire doors is scrutinised in depth with regular re-testing on our products to prove fire resistance compliance giving the end user the best confidence in the door sets we supply.
