Overview

The beautifully re-modelled Liverpool Central Library reopened its doors in June 2013 after an extensive three-year £50m refurbishment.

The Library forms part of the Unesco World Heritage Site and contains the UK’s first circular reading room based on architect Sidney Smirke’s iconic 1857 original at the British Library.

The Solution

Through open dialogue and attendance of site meetings, our design team listened to the client’s unique requirements. Mindful to protect the heritage of the building, the Fields Panel Doorset was used to integrate with the design vision, whilst also providing FD60 fire resistance.

Other high performance doorsets were used including the Fields FD120, a market leading timber based doorset, to protect the volumes of ancient books and manuals.

A specialist sealing system was also incorporated to provide a climate controlled environment to house the library’s vast collection of books.
